Becca comes “Alive!” with US debut

New artist, Becca, is soon to be a big hit all around the U.S with her debut album “Alive!” that was released March 2010. Becca, a native to Portland, Oregon, was discovered by Meredith Brooks and became a multi-media star in Japan while she was a teenager. “This is something I’ve always dreamed of doing,” says Becca.

Two of the album’s songs were used as theme songs to a hit anime television series called “Ultraviolet: Code 044.” Becca’s voice was also featured as the show’s title character. “I feel at peace with the Japanese people, we understand each other,” says Becca. Signing with Sony Music Japan in 2008, she is now launching her music in the United States.

The debut single for the album, “I’m Alive!” tells the story of living life in a song form that is quite catchy. Her punk-angst image is reminiscent of Avril Lavigne’s, but her music isn’t about “Sk8ter Boys” and singing in the rain. “Lose You Now” and “Falling Down” are both noticeable to listeners because her target audience of adolescents is concerned with problems of losing people and finding themselves.  Most of Becca’s music has an edge to it that adds further to the emotion behind the music. “She almost reminds me of Paramore,“ says freshman Kaitlynn Truscott, a fair comparison considering Becca’s edgy-rock voice that juxtaposes the few acoustic tracks she sings too.

American listeners will soon come to realize why Becca has become a hit in Japan and they might just find a “rock-chick” making angry adorable is to their liking.
