GHS freshman Chelsea Grimes and her sister Corinne, sophomore, both participate in the Advanced Dance team for the school. Last year’s dance recital, “Once Upon A Time”, featured both Chelsea and Corinne in three of its dances. Chelsea and Corinne will be dancing in this years dance recital on April 8 and 9. The sisters commented, “We both will make-up dances together just because we both love to dance.”
Ms. Tharon Gierke, the Advanced Dance teacher, speaks highly of both girls and is glad to have them in her class. “They have a lot of energy and are great little performers,” said Gierke.
Corinne, who started dancing at age five, resumed dancing when she came to Gilbert as a freshman and made it into intermediate dance. Chelsea, unlike her sister, has been participating in dance classes ever since the age of three made it into advanced dance freshman year.
“I was actually really excited to be with her, we don’t see each other too much. Its cool to have a sister older than you at a school as big as Gilbert to help you through things,” said Freshman Chelsea Grimes.
Both have taken Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theater, and both Chelsea and Corinne’s main style used to be Tap Dancing.
“I either want to be on Broadway or go to college for dance,” exclaimed Chelsea. “ I think the best part of dancing is being able to be myself; it’s my life I couldn’t live without it. You can let yourself go in dance.” Yet, Corinne says that her plans for the future depend on what other interests she develops. Maybe it will have something to do with singing, considering her favorite class is choir.
Someday these sisters will have to go their separate ways, but with all of these memories of dancing together, they will surely have a “Happily Ever After.”
