Hamilton’s next score came from the free throw line and Gilbert’s Logan Tinker calmly sank two free throws to give the Tigers their first lead of the game with forty seconds left. On its next possession Gilbert turned the ball over and Hamilton’s Jerry Harville tied the game with a free throw. An additional turnover by Gilbert led to Hamilton’s final possession with a missed jump shot by Harville that Gilbert rebounded. King’s half court shot was short sending the game into overtime before a cheering crowd.
After trading scores, Gilbert’s three-pointer gave the Tigers their biggest lead of the night with two minutes left in overtime.
